Much, however, still remains to be discovered about their interactions with the plant world. In this book a general overview of their use and knowledge of plants is presented, based on data collected from the Brazilian Yanomami (Demini, Balawaú and Xitei regions), who live in the northern part of the Satet of Amazonas and western part of the State of Roraima. The information is discussed in the context of the existing literature on Yanomami ethnobotany, and presented in the context of Amazonian ethnobotany in general. It is shown that a very substantial, and possibly exceptional, diversity of species is used by the Yanomami for a broad range of applications, but that in most cases the species employed and the uses to which they are put correspond closely to those which have been recorded amongst other Amazonian peoples ER -
